Overview |
In the past years more and more movies and computer-games are equipped with breath-taking animations and computer graphics . Animations of human beings or human-like creatures look with manual programming always artificial and unreal. Therefore human motions are captures with motion capture systems and the data are used for making human-like motions of computer-animations. |
Animation |
LUKOtronic offers for the field of film-animation motion capture systems with special capturing software. The motion data are sent either after capturing or in real-time in the appropriate format to professional animation-software to animate characters with natural motion sequences. Those animation programmes use pre-defined whole-body-models, where the quantity and the positions of the markers on the body are fix defined. By using those models for capturing, all recordings can automatically and directly be imported and used in the animation software. Those whole-body-models (in all different programmes) use 30 markers and more for the animation of a character. It is necessary to use in minimum 3 camera units, that are placed around the person, to measure all markers without marker loss. All markers must be seen all the time to be usable for the animation-software. Therefore it is necessary to use enough camera units (the more the better) and to use also interpolation-software to recreate short marker losses after the measurement. Motion capturing for animation is mainly done in two fields: 1.) film industry 2.) computer games
operating rangesTwo applications in the field of film-animations can be realized with the measuring system due to its real-time capability: 1. The motion data are imported right after capturing into professional software-tools , where they are used to animate film characters. 2. The captured motion data can also be sent directly to an animation-software (e.g. Maya), where characters can be animated in real-time . Due to this real-time capability the regisseur can see the results ride away and can intervene immediatelly. LUKOtronic cooperates with experts from the field of animation to privide professional solutions to the customers

Sport |
Overview |
There are two different kind of areas in sports, common sports for anybody and sports science for professional sportsmen and biomechanists. An analysis of motion patterns are for both user groups necessary, only the interesting questioning and interesting parameters are different. 1. Sports scientists, biomechanists and sports professionals are interested in analyzing normal motion patterns of e.g. sportsmen in detail and to do an optimization of the necessary movements. With those measurements the system users want to get either newer information about micromotion studies, forces and handicaps in joints und the whole musculoskeletal system, or they want to optimize motion patterns at professional sportsmen to increase productivity. 2. General sportsmen, who are carrying out motion sensitive sports like golf, tennis, shooting, fencing , etc., also want to control and optimize their movements . An exact analysis of their motion patterns gives those sportsmen an important feedback for improving their performances. With those motion data a trainer can make some optimized training-programmes and can demonstrate the sportsmen their mistakes. LUKOtronic offers for both sports fields customised motion capture systems to measure, analyse and document motion pattern of normal and professional sportsmen.

Routine |
Capturing and analyzing motion patterns in most different sports leads to an improvement of motion sequnce, to a more effective training and to a lower exposure of the joints. The LUKOtronic offers motion capture systems for training and controlling movements in different sports . Some examples are listed under the tab “applications”. There are no motion capture systems used for optimizing and controlling movements in the field of common sports at the moment, because they are either to expensive or to difficult to handle. With such systems every sportsmen can optimize his personal motion sequences . Furthermore the control of motions can help the sportsmen not to train wrong movements and to control permanently the motions by using an acoustical feedback-control-routine. Such motion capture and motion control systems are interesting either for different sports clubs, unions [golf and tennis clubs, shooting clubs, etc.] and sports trainers or for the sportsmen themselves to use the systems privatly
It is in many sports necessary to do correct motion sequence . The motion capture systems from LUKOtronic help to control and improve those motions sequences easily. Some sports for motion analysis: 1.) Golf 2.) Tennis 3.) Running 4.) Biking 5.) Throwing 6.) Jumping 7.) Weight training on machines 8.) Shooting Both available systems, the AS 100 and the AS 200, are suitable for scientific investigations. The more powerful AS 200 is unrestricted usable for all scientific studies. HARDWARE:

Research |
Especially in the scientific field bigger mocap laboratories consisting of several camera units are used to enlarge the measuring area and enable the measurement of absolutely free movements. The LUKOtronic products are in general indoor-systems, but under special conditions they can also be used outside. If you have requests about the system use for special applications, please contact us, we would like to inform you about the usability of our systems. Examples of sports, in which motion analysis is interesting: LUKOtronic offers portable, simple to handle, realtime capable, optical motion analysis systems for investigations of complex motions in 3D, that should be captured and analysed fast and easy with minimal temporal effort. All measurement systems of the LUKOtronic are optimized to determine movements with a high quality without a large expenditure . Due to the large measurement angles and the high sensitivity of the cameras our motion capture systems can measure the whole body of a person standing very close to the camera unit [around 2 meters] and can also measure up to 12 meters in space. The user can create measurement protocols within the software for very different motion patterns without any technical knowledge within 15-30 minutes easily. Any kind of motions of arms, legs, trunk, head, spine, etc. can be analyzed with the mocap system and any interesting motion parameter. A large and complete motion laboratory can be built up by connecting several AS 200 – the more powerful systeme – and integrating analog devices (like force-plates, trigger signals, EMG, EEC, EOG, etc.) and a normal video camera. Turning motions of 360° including real recordings and additional data of the patient can be determined discretionary with such a laboratory. The costs for such a large laboratory are still a fraction amount of all comparable systems on the market. The systems can be used in three application areas: Both available systems, the AS 100 and the AS 200, are suitable for scientific investigations. The more powerful AS 200 is unrestricted usable for all scientific studies. HARDWARE:

Medicine |
overview |
overview
Investigations and documentation of movements are interesting both in scientific studies and in everydays motion diagnostics and motion rehabilitation . Appropriate measurement systems are used to analyze complex motion patterns for diagnostic purposes and to document motion disorders and the progress of therapy-programs objectively. Analysis-software-packages for different scientific investigations and everydays medical routine are available. |
Routine |
Motion capture systems are hardly used in everydays medical routine for medical findings , evaluation of motion disorders / -restrictions , follow-up checks or for medical expert opinions . Main reasons for this are on the one hand the very high prices for real-time systems and on the other hand the very complicated and wasteful handling of the devices and the software-programmes. LUKOtronic offers technically and in terms of price different systems with a very easy to handle user-software. Those systems enable a very fast and simple investigation of motion patterns. 1. Investigations of motion patterns can be carried out objectively, precisely, fast and easily. A predefined report for documenting the results can be printed immediately. 2. The course of a therapy programme can be exactly determined and documented by doing regular measurements of defined motions. The success of a therapy programm can be clearly presented to e.g. insurances. 3. Medical and judicial expert opinions can be made and presented objectively and precisely by using a motion capture system. 4. Motion analysis systems can also determine motion dynamics beside static motion parameters, which gives much more information to the physician or therapist. By means of diagrams it is possible to display not only the degree of motions, but also motion sequences and their permanence. Determining the motion dynamics gives the user an additional information about the quality of the mobility of the patient. 5. It is possible to determine not only the interesting motions, but also some compensating and alternating movements of the patient. This way one can evaluate and diagnose complex motion patterns for diagnosis. 6. An objective presentation of a successful therapy process motivates the patient and leads to an improved recovery. 7. The measurement system can be used as a feedback-, control- and trainingsystem for physiotherapy due to its real-time capability. Motion analysis systems are used in everydays routine in orthopedics , neurology , surgery , ENT , school - and preventive medicine , rehabilitation , physiotherapy , etc.. Application tools, consisting of a measurement system and tailor-made user-software, are offered by the LUKOtronic. With our user-friendly software one can automatically carry our motion measurements within a very short time by doing only a few mouse clicks in the user-software. The following analysis tools are available:
2. Gait analysis 3. Knie- und Beinvermessung 4. Investigation of the spine 5. Investigation of the head- and cervical spine-mobility 6. Mobility of the lower jaw 7. Cranio-Corpo-Graphy 8. Shoulder mobility Both available systems, the AS 100 and the AS 200, are suitable for everydays routine work. All main features that are essential for routine work are lay both in the hardware and the software. HARDWARE:

With such a laboratory motions of persons can be fully captured for numerical analysis and animation. The LUKOtronic motion laboratory can consist of up to 8 camera units (24 single cameras) and can also integrate video camera, force plates, EMG, EEC, EOG, trigger signals from other devices, etc.. The whole system is portable due to its modular construction and can be set up at almost any place. All single camera units can always be used separately. |
|
Cameras |
Each camera unit consists of 3 single infrared cameras, that are measuring special movements of active infrared-markers in real-time. By means of the three single cameras the motions of the markers are determined in three dimensions. Two systems are available with different quality- and price-level and also different technical features, the MCU 100 ( M otion C apture U nit) and the more powerful MCU 200. |
|
force plates |
LUKOtronic offers force plates, which can be integrated into the AS 200 motion capture system in real-time. Force plates are used to determine and to visualize weak points and value of occuring forces. Those information is necessary for e.g. gait analysis, balance studies, etc. By combining force plates with a motion capture system, it is possible to determine motion sequences and appearing forces at the same time and to do a combined analysis of the data. The LUKOtronic force plates are one-dimensional, portable plates having a small height and can be set-up and used on almost any place. For gait analysis the force plates are built into a frame of wooden boards to have one constant plane to walk over it. Therefore the patients can walk over a distance of several meters in one plane. All plates can be removed and transported just in case. With this technique one must not mount the force plates into the floor and so a maximum of mobility is guaranteed. Our cost-efficient force plates are primarily constructed for medical use like gait- and balance-testings and not for jumps and heavy weights, which can occure in sports and industry. |

accessory |
Additionally to the motion capture systems the LUKOtronic offers a number of other products, that can be integrated into the system and eases the users´s work. Such accessories are markers of different sizes and energy output, controller boxes with different charging capacity, holders and many more. Three sorts of markers are available. Very small low-power-markers, which can be seen up to 7 meters of distance to the camera unit, and high-power-markers, and high-power-markers, which can be measured up to 12 meters distance to the cameras. The high-power-markers are available in a large and a small version. We offer three different types of markers. Very small Low-Power-Marker, which can be measured till a desistance of 7 meters and High-Power-Marker, which can be measured till 12 meters in a room. From the High-Power-Markers there are bigger and a smaller versions available. 1.) Marker small- Low-Power-Marker - Angle of radiation: 180 deg. - Markerdiameter: 6 mm - Measuring depth of the camera: 7 m 2.) Software |
Different software packages are available for the system depending on its use. 1. acquisition software for capturing and exporting motion data in real-time 2. analysis programme resp. –routines for data analysis within the user software 3. software platform for integrating professional biomechanics software 4. fully automatic motion analysis programmes (gait- and spine mobility analysis) The user software is available in two versions. 1. AS 200 – standard software 2. AS 202 – advanced software ad 1. The standard software is used primarily for capturing and exporting motion data for external programmes. Data analysis funcions within the user programme are very limited. The standard software is mainly used in combination with biomechanics software (like MCS Adams, AnyBody, etc.), animation software (e.g. Maya, CharacterStudio, etc.) and self-made analysis programmes. ad 2. The advanced software is used for the flexible capturing of motion patterns and the quick and simple analysis of the data. Fully automatic analysis routines for everydays use can be integrated into the user software. This software is mainly used in medical routine, research and also in the industrial area. Analog signals (EMG, EEC, ECG, force plates, triggers, etc.) can be integrated in the advanced software as well as a video camera. It is possible with this software to connect up to 8 camera units and much more. There are two fully automatic analysis programmes available for everydays medical routine work. 1. gait analysis This software enables the realization of a whole-body-gait-analysis with one camera unit within only 15 minutes and with 7 mouse clicks on the computer. The movements are statistically evaluated and automatically compared to standard values of Jacquelin Perry. As a final result one gets a printed report with all the results. 2. spine mobility analysis This software enables the investigation of the back- and spine mobility with one camera unit with only 7 mouse clicks on the computer. The analysis procedure lasts around 30 minutes and gives out a complete printed report. All motions are statistically evaluated and automatically compared to given standard values (SFTR-methode). Both programmes help to make medical diagnosis routinely, to document motion patterns objectively and to determine changes over time during rehabilitation and after surgeries. Some users, who want to program own motion analysis software, can get access to the motion data at different ways. 1. any external programme can have direct access to the motion data via a TCP-interface 2. a software-routine programmed in LabView can have direct access to the camera data 3. the motion capture system can be integrated into any programme (C++, etc.) via a DLL The user can get direct access to the motion data in real-time with one of the above mentioned routines by using self-made analysis programmes. |
